We are lucky enough to see mulloway jewfish on the Gold Coast in all months of the year.
These often large fish are fun to catch & great to eat, with a high flesh yield that freezes well.
Although we can catch them most months of the year, and they definitely have a pattern to their bite times and places, they’re actually quite a random catch, usually on the same methods we use to catch other species like cobia, snapper and mackerel.
Tips to catch mulloway jewfish on the Gold Coast
- Use large fleshy baits, either dead or alive, near the bottom
- Use a leader that will withstand their rough mouth/teeth and abrasion on structure
- Use circle hooks and wait for the rod to load up. Set the hook with a steady wind, not a strike.
So, don’t delay!
